Marissa Lovell, MPH
Marissa Lovell is the Community Health Promotion Coordinator with Lane County Public Health’s Prevention Team. In her role, she coordinates the school- and community-based programs for Lane County’s Coordinated Care Organizations to improve the health and well-being of students and families. Through her partnerships with educators, administrators, and community members, she strives to implement sustainable, culturally responsive, and equitable solutions to the county’s most pressing health problems. More broadly, her interests in the field of public health include trauma and violence prevention, child and adolescent health, and health equity.
Marissa grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Milwaukee, WI when she was a teenager. She completed her undergraduate degrees in social welfare and Spanish with minors in psychology and health studies at Marquette University. As a student, she worked as a youth mentor, research assistant, and advocate for victims of violence. After graduating, she stayed in Milwaukee and held positions as a social work case manager in child welfare and as a research coordinator for a project on employee health and wellness. Her time in the field of social work motivated her to seek out creative and proactive approaches to address the systems of oppression that harm communities. She decided to shift her career trajectory, move out west to Oregon, and pursue a Master’s of Public Health to work on the prevention side of health and human services. In 2021, she graduated from Oregon State University with an MPH in Health Promotion and Health Behavior, where she also worked on projects involving youth physical activity promotion, suicide prevention, and reproductive health.
Outside of her work in public health, Marissa loves being outdoors and spending time with her 60-pound lap dog, Peanut. She enjoys running, cycling, swimming, and exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
